At Fish Eagle River Camp, nature has provided breathtaking views with an array of birds and wildlife. We provide a rustic bush camp and river venue.
Fish Eagle River Camp is situated on the banks of the Breede River, just 30 minutes drive from the historical town of Swellendam and only 3 hours from the Cape Town CBD. It’s the ideal escape to fully embrace the tranquillity of nature and the great outdoors.
Due to our location we boast a variety of activities within the area for self exploration or you can book one of our in-house activities with our adventure operator Xama Adventures who offers river trails, fishing excursions and guided self-drive safaris. Our camp is perfect for family groups + reunions, individual campers and group bookings looking for a more remote wilderness style camping facility. We also host a variety of school grade camps and corporate incentive packages.
Nestled remotely along the beautiful banks of the Breede River, Fish Eagle River Camp offers a unique camping experience in the heart of nature.
We have twelve standard campsites, each equipped with an electrical point, lighting, and braai facilities. For those with 4×4 vehicles seeking a completely off-grid experience, we also offer two non-electrified campsites.
Our central wash-up area and clean ablution blocks with separate facilities for ladies and gentlemen, including hot water, are available for all campers. Each of our campsites comfortably accommodates 4 to 6 people.
For guests looking for a hassle-free camping option or those without their own equipment, we have three safari-style dome tents set up on decks. These come complete with beds and bedding. Additionally, our secluded bush camp can be booked exclusively and can sleep up to six individuals. For a touch of luxury, consider our two-sleeper glamping pods, each featuring an en-suite bathroom and a small kitchenette with basic amenities.
Our camp is privileged to be located within the Renosterveld Project, one of the last remaining biodomes of indigenous renosterveld. This unique setting allows for a natural transition of wildlife across the farmlands. Keep an eye out for porcupines, bushbuck, steenbok, genet, serval, cape hare, and mongoose, which are just some of the animals occasionally seen around the campsite. Bird enthusiasts will be delighted by the rich birdlife, with opportunities to spot iconic species like the African Fish Eagle, Blue Cranes, Kingfishers, and Hoopoes. Anglers can also enjoy fishing for Carp and Largemouth/Smallmouth Bass in the tranquil eddy below the camp.
For group bookings made in advance, we offer catering options to enhance your stay. Please note that our campsite is designed for a peaceful retreat and is not suited for large music festivals or similar high-impact events. However, we are open to hosting private functions such as film sets, family reunions, milestone celebrations, and school markets.
To protect the sensitive Renosterveld environment and due to our location on a working farm with our friendly resident dogs, Ziggy and Luna, we have a strict no pets policy.
To ensure a tranquil atmosphere for all our guests, music is not permitted within the camp unless special written permission has been granted for a privately hired function. In such cases, music must cease by 12:00 AM.
Situated on the banks of the Breede River (with access points). 12 grassed + shaded campsites available, each accommodating 4-6 persons. Sites are allocated on day of arrival according to group sizes and camping equipment to ensure adequate sites for all guests.
A set up safari style dome tent on deck with bed and bedding for a camping experience without the hassle. Our bush camp can accommodate 6 persons, 2 per tent. Basic cutlery and crockery is supplied for 6 persons. This campsite makes use of all shared areas, including ablution block and scullery.
