At Fish Eagle River Camp, nature has provided breathtaking views with an array of birds and wildlife. We provide a rustic bush camp and river venue.
Fish Eagle River Camp is situated on the banks of the Breede River, just 30 minutes drive from the historical town of Swellendam and only 3 hours from the Cape Town CBD. It’s the perfect place to soak up mother nature and immerse yourself in the great outdoors.
Due to our location we boast a variety of activities within the area for self exploration or you can book one of our in-house activities with our adventure operator Xama Adventures who offers river trails, fishing excursions and guided self-drive safaris. Our camp is perfect for family groups + reunions, individual campers and group bookings looking for a more remote wilderness style camping facility. We also host a variety of school grade camps and corporate incentive packages.
Our campsite is remote, situated on the banks of the Breede River. We have 10 campsites each with access to an electrical point, lights and braai facilities. We have 2 non-electrified campsites for 4×4 off-grid campers. Central wash up station and clean ablutions with hot water (separate female + male) are available. Each campsite can accommodate 4-6 persons per site. We have 3 safari style dome tents set up on decks with bed + bedding for those looking for a camping experience but with no gear due to travel restrictions or for first time campers. Our set up bush camp can be booked out exclusively and sleeps up to 6 persons. We have two 2 sleeper glamping pods with en-suite and small kitchenette with basic amenities.
The camp is set within the Renosterveld Project (as one of the last remaining biodomes of indigenous renosterveld). This provides a unique transition of wildlife between the farmlands. Wildlife such as porcupine, bush buck, steenbok, genet, serval, cape hare and mongoose are just a few of the species seen around camp. The birdlife is rich and a paradise for avid birders looking to catch the world-famous Fish Eagle, Blue Cranes, Kingfishers + Hoopoes. Carp + Large/Smallmouth Bass are commonly found in the eddy below camp.
For group pre-bookings we also offer catered options. Please note that we are not a music festival destination and do not wish to strain our campsite for short term over capitalised events. We are open to private functions such as film sets, family reunions, milestone celebrations and school market.
The camp has a no pets policy as we fall within the Renosterveld Project and situated on a working farm with two resident dogs ~ Ziggy + Luna.
No music permitted in camp unless special written permission has been granted, and camp hired for a private function. No music after 12am policy.
Situated on the banks of the Breede River (with access points). 10 grassed + shaded campsites available, each accommodating 4-6 persons. Sites are allocated on day of arrival according to group sizes and camping equipment to ensure adequate sites for all guests.
A set up safari style dome tent on deck with bed and bedding for a camping experience without the hassle. Our bush camp can accommodate 2-6 persons. Basic cutlery and crockery supplied for 6 persons. Shared ablutions + scullery available.
